Often, grandfathers, fathers and sons choose to experience a weekend retreat together at Malvern Retreat House. The McShain-Horstmann Family Life Center is designed to accommodate individuals, couples, and families. These air-conditioned, handicap accessible bedrooms offer ample space for personal reflection. Each room holds a double and single bed, along with a private bathroom.

Founded in 1912 to serve laymen in the Philadelphia area, Malvern Retreat House continues to build upon its legacy of healing today by serving men and women of all ages and walks of life. Each year, Malvern Retreat House holds more than 250 retreats, reflections, and special events designed to fulfill the specific spiritual needs of any person.
A member of the St. Joseph’s Group, Michael is a fifteen-year retreatant. Michael is a graduate of Boston University School of Management and now serves as the Principal of the Valley Forge Financial Group in King of Prussia, PA. He holds Series 6, 22, 63, Life, Accident, Health, and Long Term Care Insurance Licenses and was formerly the Finance Manager at WP Realty. He has also worked as a Senior Finance Analyst with GE Energy Services. Led to Jesus through Our Blessed Mother, Mary Bea is a passionate Catholic Evangelist, with a deep love for the Eucharist, Our Lady, and for our one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Her witness is one of giving her continuous ‘Yes’ at the calling of Our Lord – in the workplace, in the family and in the world.
The Generosity of the McShain Family
Owned and operated by the Laymen’s Retreat League, Malvern Retreat House is a spiritual sanctuary with a long-standing Catholic retreat history. As the largest Catholic retreat house in the U.S., this spiritual sanctuary hosts 350 private rooms, two chapels, five oratories, a large conference center and a dining hall in the Main Retreat House. In addition, a self-contained building - The McShain-Horstmann Family Life Center - offers 50 handicap-accessible rooms. In this building, individuals are offered amenities including a private bath in each room. Instill meaning, significance, and beauty into any event by hosting it at Malvern Retreat House.
DiPasquale was also a 12-year retreatant and CA Captain for seven years with the 4th of July Family Retreat Group. Carmen, a Clinical Dietician at Dunwoody Village, is a member of the Spirituality Committee, a Discovering Christ Series facilitator and a Project HOME volunteer. Carmen, bilingual in Spanish and English, is a parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and RCIA Team Member at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Carmen serves on the Retreat Committee and supports many of the Women of Malvern retreats. At Malvern Retreat House, we meet each of our visitors where they are, offering them a quiet and healing respite from the demands and distractions of everyday life.

Our groups are autonomous, deriving from, The National Matt Talbot Retreat Movement Inc. and hold no affiliation with retreat houses and their administrations. Our retreats offer conferences, discussion group break-out sessions, AA meetings, one-on one’s and the celebration of the Eucharist. Gordon is a 15 year Man of Malvern with the Chester County Group. He currently serves the Board of Directors on the Nominating and Governance Committee. He is also a Fourth Degree Knight, and a 25+ year member of the Knights of Columbus. She has been a retreatant at Malvern since 2018, and has attended nearly 30 retreats. Michael currently services as Vice President, Provider Network Management for Change Healthcare. Michael earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder and an Aresty Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School Aresty Institute of Executive Education.
While running his own business Printerlink, Sean has also volunteered with the retreat house as a member for both the Retreat Committee and Fund Development Committee. He also devotes much of his free time to those who are in need within the community. Sean currently resides in New Jersey and attends the Church of the Incarnation. Michael Dokas has been part of the Malvern family for many years. Mike was an employee and attended retreats including Kairos with Devon Preparatory School and is now a Man of Malvern with the Immaculate Conception group. Mike is a Manager with Deloitte Consulting LLP for 9 years, worked as an analyst for Goldman Sachs & Co and Comcast Corporation.
